Kegel Alcatraz

"38’ patterns can often handcuff players because they are too short to play inside, but too long to play outside. However, within the Alcatraz oil pattern there looks to be an escape route, and many have tried to use it, but very few have succeeded." ~Kegel

Fox Bowl - 2017-06-27

Bowling in tournaments is not just about skill, it also requires stamina.  After completing my pre-bowl, I threw an additional three games to work on my endurance.  I stayed on the same pair of lanes which allowed me to also work on my mental game.  Even though I bowled solo, the lanes did have a small degree of transition on them.  Since the oil volume is so high, transition does take longer to occur.

Taryn, who you see at times on this website, turns 27 on the 28th. With my family first blurb out of the way, let's get into the pre-bowl review.

SSE - 2017-06-21 (Week 7)

Kegel Alcatraz is a short, flat pattern that has some bite to it.  At 38' long with a rough ratio of 1:2.2 or so, shot making is key.  Although, once you find a line to play, it breaks down fairly easily.  Based on my experience, the duller equipment with surface played out better than anything with a shine to it.  I used my Phaze II through each game, only having to move to the middle by midway through game two.  The biggest challenge for me was personal shot making.  By the time the middle of the second game hit, I was throwing the ball too far down the lane.  This lead to speed and targe
