Even though I have been bowling since I was young, I am constantly learning new things.  As I bowl on more difficult patterns with a diverse population of bowlers, unique situations present themselves that I yet to see.  This week's challenge was tackling the use of urethane equipment on a long, high volume pattern.  Generally, on these patterns, most bowlers will use reactive resin based equipment.  This tends to pull oil out of the lane, while only presenting a minimal amount of carry down.  When urethane is used, the oil tends to get pushed down the lane in streaks.  Now, I am not agains

The USBC Team shot sure isn't easy.  The length, volume and general flatness of the pattern have to be contended with.  Once a shot is found, it does play fairly well, provided that you stay slow and consistent.  Any shots that are too fast, too far outside or too far inside will result in an errant pin count because the ball will either miss the point or fly right by it.  I felt fairly confident with my performance on this for my first go.  A couple poorly timed bad breaks took me down from a high 500 to the 550 that I ended.  Let's see what week two brings!
